Opnieuw onrust bij Belfast: politie zet waterkanon in tegen relschoppers

Approximately 200 individuals reportedly gathered in Newtownabbey, north of Belfast, throwing projectiles and setting fires. Police deployed water cannons to disperse the crowds, and a sewage truck was set ablaze. While other parts of Belfast were calmer than the previous night, significant violence was reported elsewhere in Northern Ireland, including arson in Londonderry. In anticipation of further disturbances, some schools and businesses closed early, and public transportation was temporarily suspended.
The ongoing violence, which follows a wave of racist attacks, highlights deep-seated tensions and poses a significant threat to community safety and stability.
