Aantal internationale studenten in Nederland daalt voor het eerst in 20 jaar
Voor het eerst in twintig jaar is het aantal internationale studenten in Nederland afgenomen. In het lopende studiejaar staan 129.764 buitenlandse studenten ingeschreven voor een volledige opleiding aan een Nederlandse hogeschool of universiteit. Dat zijn er 133 minder dan vorig studiejaar, meldt Nuffic, de organisatie voor internationalisering van het onderwijs. For the first time in two decades, the number of international students pursuing full degrees in the Netherlands has seen a decline. This academic year, there are 129,764 foreign students enrolled, a slight decrease of 133 compared to the previous year. This marks a significant shift from the typical annual growth rates of 10-20% previously observed.
The drop is particularly noticeable among students from Germany and China, with substantial decreases in enrollment from these countries. While Germany remains the largest source of international students, its numbers have been falling for several years. Conversely, India and Spain have seen an increase in student numbers.
