Hampir sedekad beroperasi, khidmat PL TSR ditamatkan

The Tun Sharifah Rodziah Naval Base (PL TSR), a key maritime security post in Sabah's eastern waters, has officially ceased operations after nearly a decade. The base, originally a mobile offshore production platform built in the US in 1973, was transformed through a collaboration between the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), PETRONAS, and Sapura Kencana. It served as a strategic forward base to ensure continuous RMN presence and support maritime security operations within the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZONE).
The functions of the PL TSR will now be assumed by the Auxiliary Ship Tun Azizan (KA TAZ), ensuring ongoing operational readiness and rapid response capabilities. The RMN stated that it will continue to enhance its operational capabilities to safeguard national sovereignty and maritime security.
The closure marks a shift in maritime security strategy, with the responsibilities of a vital forward operating base being transferred to a naval vessel, highlighting the evolving nature of naval deployments and security measures in the region.
