The National Economic Council (NEC) has significantly reduced the development budget for the upcoming fiscal year, cutting it by 25% to Rs3.218 trillion. This reduction impacts both federal and provincial development plans, with provincial budgets collectively seeing a nearly one-third decrease. The federal Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) will be Rs1 trillion, while provincial Annual Development Plans (ADPs) are set at Rs2.218 trillion, aligning them with current utilization levels.
Punjab experienced the most substantial cut, with its development plan reduced by nearly half. In contrast, Balochistan's development program remains unaffected and even sees a slight increase. The NEC also decided to exclude new projects except for those related to the interior and defense ministries.
