Latvia to Draft Diaspora Youth for Defence Service
Starting next year, Latvian citizens living abroad will also be eligible for conscription into the mandatory State Defence Service. According to rough estimates, 1,000 young people in the UK could meet the requirements for national defence service next year; however, interest from the diaspora has been very low so far.

Estimates suggest approximately 1,000 young individuals in the UK may be eligible for this service. However, initial indications point to a notably low level of interest from the Latvian diaspora regarding participation.
This policy change aims to broaden the pool of conscripts for national defense, impacting Latvian citizens living abroad.
