The Communist Party of India (CPI) is not in alliance with the DMK in Tamil Nadu, said M. Veerapandian, State secretary of the CPI.

Mr. Veerapandian told the media in Coimbatore on Thursday (June 11, 2026) that at present, there was no conducive environment in the State for the CPI to be part of the DMK-led alliance. “We will continue to travel with the Left parties. The CPI sees the DMK, AIADMK, and TVK as democratic forces. We cannot be part of the DMK-led alliance under the current circumstances. The situation is not allowing it.”

The Congress has withdrawn from the DMK-led alliance, and the latter has said it was not part of the INDIA bloc. “The VCK and IUML are not there either. The current situation is not conducive for an alliance. In the coming days, when there are local body and other elections, the CPI will decide its stand. The CPI takes its own political decisions,” he said.

He said that the TVK has emerged as a new democratic force, winning 108 seats. The CPI decided to extend external support to the TVK government to back the verdict of the people as a political duty, he said. “The CPI will always be part of democratic forces. The DMK, AIADMK, and the TVK are all democratic forces,” he reiterated.

Regarding the upcoming bye-elections, he said when the situation arises, the party would meet and decide. “We want to protect secularism. There is no other private enmity with the BJP. The BJP and RSS are the only forces we oppose politically. We will work with any party that joins with us to protect the welfare of the workers and the State,” he said.

The CPI welcomed the TVK government’s stand in the Thirupparankundram issue and two-language policy. “The TVK government needs time, but should implement its election promises. However, it cannot take time to ensure law and order in the State,” he said.

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay should meet the press and share what was discussed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Democracy will grow only when the press is there. N
