Suspension Appeal Filed for Tourism Ministry Official
An appeal was lodged on Thursday against Deputy Tourism Minister Costas Koumis’ suggestion that his ministry’s permanent secretary Neophytos Papadopoulos be suspended. The rift between Koumis and Papadopoulou first arose in the aftermath of an Iranian-made drone being fired at Cyprus in March, with the former believing it would cause a tourism crisis and the latter disagreeing. The appeal with the Public Service Commission was filed by Papadopoulos’ lawyer Chris Triantafyllid
An appeal has been submitted to the Public Service Commission challenging the proposed suspension of Neophytos Papadopoulos, the permanent secretary of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism. The appeal was filed by Papadopoulos' lawyer, who contends that the suspension is unjustified and not in the public interest. The dispute reportedly stems from differing views between Deputy Minister Costas Koumis and Papadopoulos regarding the potential impact of an Iranian-made drone incident on tourism.
The lawyer argued that the suspension lacks legal basis and that the deputy minister's actions may be unconstitutional. He further stated that the evidence needed for an investigation is already secured and that removing Papadopoulos would disrupt administrative continuity and the ministry's ability to fulfill its obligations.
This situation highlights potential administrative disputes and legal challenges within a government ministry, impacting its operational continuity and public trust.
