The Minister of Education for Central Equatoria State has pledged to reform examination oversight and invigilation processes. Minister Lupai Satimon Andrew stated that recent national exams saw cheating incidents allegedly coordinated by security personnel and other officials present at testing sites. To combat this, the ministry plans to provide enhanced training for invigilators and supervisors to clarify their responsibilities and ensure adherence to protocols.
Andrew also voiced concerns about the intimidating effect of military presence in examination rooms on student performance. He encouraged students to prioritize honest academic achievement over obtaining high scores through illicit means, referred to locally as 'Machot'. This comes after the National Examinations Council nullified results for 87 candidates in Eastern Equatoria State and assigned zero scores to 23 others due to significant examination irregularities.
The commitment to addressing exam malpractice and potential official collusion is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the education system and ensuring fair academic assessment.
