The the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said the southwest monsoon is likely to arrive in parts of Jharkhand within the next two to three days.

The northeast and central parts of Jharkhand, including capital Ranchi, had experienced pre-monsoon rainfall with strong winds on Thursday afternoon.

Elsewhere, the IMD has also issued an orange alert warning of very heavy rains for Idukki and Ernakulam on Friday (June 12, 2026), while Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Thrissur, Kannur and Kasaragod districts have been put on yellow alert, where isolated heavy rain is likely.

Similarly, very heavy rain has been forecast for Ernakulam and Thrissur districts on Thursday (June 11, 2026) and isolated heavy rains for Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on the day. Isolated heavy rains will continue in parts of the State powered by the cyclonic circulations over the Bay of Bengal.

A two-day National Workshop on Monsoon Preparedness commenced today at the USDMA Building in Dehradun.

The event is being jointly organised by the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA).

Senior officials from both the Central and State governments are participating in the workshop, aimed at strengthening disaster preparedness ahead of the monsoon season.

The IMD today said that the southwest monsoon is likely to arrive in parts of Jharkhand within the next two to three days.
