Sudurpaschim Cold Storage Projects Stalled After Five Years
Millions spent on facilities meant to reduce post-harvest losses, but poor planning, contractor delays and lack of electricity have left most projects unusable.
Twelve cold storage facilities in Nepal's Sudurpaschim province have remained unfinished for five years, despite significant investment. Millions of rupees have been allocated to these projects, which were intended to decrease post-harvest food spoilage.
However, issues such as inadequate planning, contractor delays, and insufficient electricity supply have rendered the majority of these facilities non-operational. The stalled projects represent a considerable waste of resources and a failure to support the agricultural sector.
The failure to complete these cold storage projects hinders efforts to reduce food waste and support local farmers in Sudurpaschim.
