Kazakhstan is planning to assign female investigators to handle cases of sexual assault, according to the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Sanzhar Adilov. This initiative aims to reduce the psychological distress experienced by victims and foster greater trust in law enforcement agencies. The Ministry of Internal Affairs also clarified the application of a new article in the Criminal Code concerning forced marriage. Adilov stated that both men and women can be victims under this law, but criminal liability only arises if threats, violence, or coercion are involved in compelling someone to marry.
This policy change reflects a growing focus on victim support and gender sensitivity in addressing serious crimes, particularly in the wake of high-profile domestic violence cases.
