Sentencing for Former Dushanbe Airport Officials

A Dushanbe city court has issued sentences for five former officials of the Dushanbe International Airport. These individuals, along with the airport's ex-chairman, were implicated in the misappropriation of approximately 1.245 billion somoni, a sum exceeding $100 million USD. The court found them guilty of embezzlement, fraud, and document forgery on January 30th.
Following the verdict, the officials were released after paying fines and, in the case of four individuals, were barred from holding public office for three years. The court confirmed that the state's losses have been fully compensated and the defendants have not appealed the ruling. The separate case against the former airport chairman is still pending.
This case highlights ongoing concerns about corruption within state-run enterprises in Tajikistan and the legal processes involved in addressing such allegations.
