Collector G. Lakshmisha directed the officials to remain alert and take precautionary measures after heavy rain lashed the NTR district, including Vijayawada on Wednesday night and Thursday.
Taking stock of the situation, the Collector said that measures should be taken in accordance with the guidelines issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority.
The municipal authorities were directed to remove stagnant water from roads, while agricultural officials have been told to ensure that farmers receive all support to check crop damage.
The heavy rain left the low-lying areas near the Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS), mango market, NTR Circle, Benz Circle, the Collectorate premises under a sheet of water. Efforts are underway to drain the stagnant water from the major junctions.
The Collector advised the public to avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles during the rain. He urged the citizens to seek the help of officials or approach the Command Control room by dialling 9154970454.
According to officials, the rainfall reported by various mandals in 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Thursday are as follows: Tiruvuru (109.6 mm), Vijayawada Rural (95.8 mm), Vijayawada East (92.8 mm), Vijayawada Central and Vijayawada West (92.4 mm), Vijayawada North (91.8 mm), Reddigudem (90.9 mm), Gampalagudem (84.2 mm), Mylavaram (69 mm), A. Konduru (66.4 mm). Other places in the district received rain less than 50 mm.
