Minister for Mines, Geology, and Excise Kollu Ravindra instructed Excise officials on Thursday to step up surveillance and enforcement against illegal liquor trade, ganja trafficking, and belt shops across the State, emphasising the importance of public health protection.

At a review meeting with officials of the Prohibition and Excise Department from Chittoor, Tirupati, and Annamayya districts at the Collectorate here, the Minister said the State government had streamlined the liquor policy, ensuring the availability of quality products to consumers through a regulated system. Officials from other States were studying Andhra Pradesh’s liquor policy, while consultations had already begun to frame a new policy as the current one is set to expire in September, Mr. Ravindra said.

The Minister informed the department personnel to submit suggestions for the new policy, instructing them to maintain strict vigil against illegal liquor sales and unauthorised belt shops. He further called for coordinated action from the line departments to curb repeat offences and strengthen enforcement mechanisms.

Meanwhile, District Collector Nishant Kumar highlighted the importance of maintaining quality standards in liquor sales and safeguarding consumer health. He asked officials to conduct regular inspections, collect samples from bars and liquor outlets for testing, and ensure surveillance systems function effectively. He also warned against any adulteration or irregularities that could affect public confidence, instructing officials to remain vigilant in protecting both public health and government revenue.
