A series of thefts was reported across Kannur city on Thursday, including an alleged burglary at a hotel near Payyambalam and multiple break-ins at shops on Press Club Road.
A sum of ₹1.02 lakh was allegedly stolen from a hotel on Red Cross Road, Payyambalam. The incident took place around 6 a.m. CCTV footage showed a masked intruder entering the premises after breaking open the door and stealing money from the cash counter before fleeing through the front door.
The Town police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Several shops on Press Club Road were allegedly burgled. Cash, garments, bags, watches, and other valuables were stolen from multiple establishments.
Traders pointed out that thefts had occurred earlier at establishments on Press Club Road and in the stadium area, but the culprits had not been apprehended.
K.V. Saleem, president of the local unit of the Merchants and Industries Coordination Committee, urged the authorities to strengthen night patrol in the city.
