NC and BJP condemn Pakistan’s ‘atrocities in PoK’, seek UN intervention

Leaders of the National Conference (NC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday (June 11, 2026) condemned Pakistan’s actions in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK), with NC president Farooq Abdullah demanding a probe by the United Nations into the incidents of atrocities.

“Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing troubling times. People of the part of J&K that is under Pakistan are facing oppression and atrocities. Several people have been martyred. I appeal to the UN rights group to investigate these atrocities and bring truth to the world. The United Nations Human Rights Council should visit the region,” said Mr. Abdullah.

Condemning the civilian killings during the recent unrest in PoK, BJP general secretary Ashok Kaul said the Pakistan Army was committing “atrocities on the civilians”. “Around 30 civilians have died in the firing. Civilians were fired upon like the Jallianwala Bagh incident. The BJP stands by the 1994 Parliament resolution that PoK was part of J&K. We stand in solidarity with the people of PoK and demand justice,” said Mr. Kaul.

Muzaffar Iqbal Khan, an independent legislator from Pir Panjal valley’s Thanamandi, also condemned the civilian killings. “Opening fire on civilians under any circumstances violates the basic principles of humanity. People’s genuine grievances remain unaddressed and hardships continue to mount in PoK. People hit the streets in pursuit of justice and will no longer be deterred by repression or coercive tactics,” said Mr. Khan.

Several groups in Jammu and Srinagar held protests over the reported killings of civilians following the banning of a civil society group, Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC), which is at the forefront of an agitation over several demands.
