This tax would apply to both online and land-based sports betting, casinos, slot machines, and virtual games. The government aims to curb negative impacts of gambling, such as addiction and reduced youth engagement in productive activities. Additionally, 10 percent of the revenue generated will fund the Tanzania Gaming Board for enhanced industry regulation and supervision.
This initiative aims to address social issues linked to gambling while simultaneously boosting government revenue for development projects.
