ICE Protester Gets 30 Months for Assaulting Officer

A man involved in protests at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in Portland, Oregon, has received a 30-month prison sentence. Robert Jacob Hoopes pleaded guilty to aggravated assault of a federal employee with a dangerous weapon. Court documents state he threw a rock that struck an officer in the head, causing an injury.

In addition to his prison term, Hoopes was sentenced to three years of supervised release and ordered to pay more than $8,000 in restitution. Prosecutors emphasized that violence is not a form of protest and that assaulting federal officers will lead to prosecution.
