The government says the long-awaited delimitation and demarcation report on proposed constituency boundary adjustments will be made public at an appropriate time, dismissing claims that it is being withheld from the public. This was revealed on Thursday by deputy minister of urban and rural development Evelyn Nawases-Taeyele while responding to questions in the National Assembly. Consultations by the Delimitation and Demarcation Commission were conducted in 2024 ahead of the presidential and National Assembly elections, as well as the regional council and local authority elections. During the consultations, residents in regions such as the Kavango East, Zambezi and Khomas regions called for the expansion of some constituencies, arguing that long distances and limited access to services continue to affect communities. The Delimitation and Demarcation Commission, chaired by judge Petrus Unengu, submitted its final report to former president Nangolo Mbumba in 2025. Nawases-Taeyele remarks follow criticism from some quarters that the report is being kept from public scrutiny. “We are very transparent. Hence, an amount of N$5.8 million was allocated for the commission’s activities, of which N$5.5 million was utilised, leaving a balance of N$263 302. It is not correct to assume that the report is being kept secret, as it will be made public at an appropriate time,” Nawases-Taeyele said. She assured lawmakers that any boundary changes recommended in the report would not negatively affect citizens’ voting rights or access to services, as all adjustments would be implemented in accordance with applicable laws. “I firmly believe that any recommendations contained in the report will be in the best interests of the citizens of this country,” she added.
