Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan has strongly condemned the United States military action in the Gulf of Oman that resulted in the deaths of three Indian sailors.
Describing the incident as deeply painful, he pointed out that another vessel operating with an Indian crew was targeted in a similar manner by the American military even after the fatal attack.
In a Facebook post, the CPI(M) veteran also slammed the Union government and accused it of demonstrating a “shameful subservience” towards the United States. He also lashed out at the administration for failing to initiate strict action or criticise the United States more severely even as its own citizens are losing their lives.
According to Mr. Vijayan, India’s diplomatic response must go beyond a mere nominal protest. He also urged the Centre to intervene immediately and exert strong pressure on the United States to bring an end to American military attacks in West Asia.
Moreover, he demanded that the Centre push Washington to withdraw the ongoing blockade near the Strait of Hormuz to guarantee safe and free maritime navigation.
