National Conference (NC) leader and Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet Minister Sakina Itoo on Friday (June 12, 2026) said the Centre should review the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) “if the security situation has improved and stone pelting has ended in the Union Territory (UT)”.
“If the situation is normal and stone pelting has stopped, then AFSPA should be removed from Jammu and Kashmir first,” said Ms. Itoo, who is serving as Minister for Education, Health and Medical Education, and Social Welfare.
Terming Statehood as “the right of Jammu and Kashmir”, Ms. Itoo said, “We want back what we had earlier. A protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi is also being planned to press for the demand.”
