Greece's Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou, held consecutive meetings in Houston with senior executives from Chevron and ExxonMobil. The objective was to accelerate hydrocarbon sector development. At Chevron, discussions focused on the company's increasing interest in Greece, evidenced by its request to participate in a maritime block in the Ionian Sea. Greece assured Chevron of expedited regulatory approvals and invited them to Athens for finalization. Subsequently, Papastavrou met with ExxonMobil's head of research programs for Europe and North Africa. They discussed the progress of an exploratory drilling planned for the Ionian Sea in February 2027. The minister also participated in a 3+1 Energy Cooperation ministerial meeting with US, Cypriot, and Israeli energy officials. This meeting addressed topics of mutual interest in the energy sector.
This highlights Greece's proactive engagement with major energy companies to advance its hydrocarbon exploration and development initiatives.
