Abhishek Banerjee Summoned Again by CID After Signature Forgery Case Interrogation

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of West Bengal interrogated Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee for over five hours in connection with an alleged signature forgery case involving party legislators. The interrogation took place at the CID headquarters in Kolkata. Investigators were reportedly not satisfied with his responses and have summoned him again for Sunday. Banerjee, nephew of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, had appeared before the CID after returning from New Delhi. The case stems from allegations that signatures of several Trinamool MLAs were forged on a letter submitted to the Speaker for electing the legislative party leader. Some MLAs claimed their signatures were not present on the document on the stated date. Banerjee had sought anticipatory bail from the Calcutta High Court, which granted him interim protection from coercive action until he appeared before the CID.

This legal development raises questions about internal party dynamics and potential electoral irregularities within West Bengal's political landscape.
