Geraldo Almeida, the commission's coordinator, explained that the current legal education in Cape Verde largely relies on Portuguese law, including colonial-era statutes, and needs adaptation to national specificities. The commission's work involves reconstructing documentation to better understand and define Cape Verdean civil law, moving away from imported legal structures towards a more 'Cabo-Verdian' identity in its legal system.
