The Municipal Police of Praia, Cape Verde, is set to significantly increase its operational capacity with a donation of communication equipment from China. The handover ceremony, attended by the Mayor of Praia, Francisco Carvalho, and the Chinese Ambassador, Zhang Yang, symbolizes the strong bilateral ties between China and the municipality. The donation includes approximately 30 portable communication devices and radios, enabling real-time data transmission, photo sharing, and incident reporting, thereby enhancing the police force's responsiveness. Mayor Carvalho stated that this support is vital for modernizing the force and follows previous investments in fleet upgrades and improved working conditions. Ambassador Zhang Yang affirmed China's commitment to supporting local development and strengthening cooperation with Cape Verdean institutions, noting the upcoming 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Currently, the Praia Municipal Police has 56 officers, and a public tender is underway to recruit 53 new agents, which, combined with enhanced capabilities, will effectively double the force.
This initiative aims to bolster public safety and operational efficiency in Praia through technological enhancement and personnel expansion, strengthening international cooperation.
