Traffic in Belém will be affected by upcoming road closures for the construction of the João Paulo II avenue viaduct. The Metropolitan Transport Management Unit (NGTM) has announced two new blockages scheduled for June 16th and 18th, with disruptions anticipated throughout July. These closures are necessary for the installation of water mains. The viaduct, planned for completion in the second half of 2026, will feature four lanes and is intended to improve traffic flow at the intersection with Doctor Freitas Avenue. A roundabout will also be constructed beneath the elevated roadway. Previously part of the COP 30 infrastructure plans, the viaduct was later removed from that package without explanation. Several other viaducts have already been delivered in the Belém Metropolitan Region.
The traffic alterations in Belém are crucial for the progress of a significant infrastructure project aimed at improving urban mobility.
