Who Was 'Niño Guerrero'?

Héctor Rustherford Guerrero Flores, widely known as 'Niño Guerrero,' was the leader of the transnational criminal organization Tren de Aragua. This group became one of South America's most feared criminal enterprises. The United States had offered a $5 million reward for his capture. Guerrero's death occurred during an operation coordinated by the U.S. Southern Command with the Venezuelan government on June 12, 2026. He had been a fugitive since 2023 after an operation at Tocorón prison, which was considered the Tren de Aragua's base. The organization expanded across Latin America and into the U.S., where it was designated a terrorist group by the Trump administration. Guerrero was accused of transforming Tren de Aragua into a continental criminal organization posing a threat to public safety. He began his criminal career in the early 2000s, engaging in activities such as micro-trafficking.
