Today, the Orthodox Church commemorates Saint Apostle Erma, one of the seventy apostles mentioned by Saint Paul in his Epistle to the Romans. Originally from Greece, Erma lived in Rome for a significant period and served as the Bishop of Philippopolis, where he ultimately met a martyr's death. An angel revealed to him the teachings that formed the influential book "The Shepherd." Erma, once wealthy, faced extreme poverty due to his sons' transgressions. He received divine guidance on repentance and lived according to twelve commandments, emphasizing faith, simplicity, truthfulness, chastity, patience, and discernment between good and evil spirits. The angel guided him through life's challenges, including spiritual warfare and the importance of prayer.
