If synthetic drugs are identified with poisonous elements not on the official list, it complicates the subsequent legal process. This issue was discussed at the Cabinet level to find a definitive solution. The Home Ministry is enhancing coordination with the Ministry of Health and the Chemistry Department to effectively enforce laws against new synthetic drug syndicates. A concerning trend shows synthetic drug abuse is most severe in East Coast states, particularly Kelantan and Terengganu, before spreading to Pahang. Unlike the West Coast, which still sees use of cannabis and heroin, the East Coast is now dominated by synthetic drugs with more severe effects. The nation recorded 192,000 individuals involved in drug abuse nationwide.
The delay in updating the Poisons Act poses a significant obstacle to law enforcement in combating synthetic drug crimes, underscoring the need for swift legislative action.
