Chhatra Shibir Leader Arrested for Rape, Forced Abortion Charges

A central leader of Chhatra Shibir, Zisan Mia Prodhan, has been arrested on charges of rape and forced abortion. Police claim Prodhan was not kidnapped but went into hiding himself to avoid marriage. He was found unconscious in Laksam Railway Junction area and is currently receiving medical treatment in police custody at Comilla Medical College Hospital. A case has been filed against him by a woman who became pregnant and was allegedly pressured by Prodhan to terminate the pregnancy. The woman claims Prodhan agreed to marry her but then disappeared to evade the wedding. Police are investigating the allegations, which include fraud and causing the termination of a pregnancy. Prodhan, previously a leader in the organization's Comilla district branch, was reported missing by his cousin.
