João Castro, 41, director of the Municipal Museum in Jaú, SP, is exhibiting a football autographed by members of the 1970 Brazilian World Cup-winning team. Castro received the ball as a gift from his godfather, who was friends with former player Edu, when he was between 7 and 8 years old. Initially, he played with it, unaware of its historical significance. During his university studies in Tourism and Museology, he recognized the ball's immense historical value. While it bears signatures from numerous legendary players like Tostão, Gérson, and Rivellino, it notably lacks Pelé's autograph. Castro considers himself privileged to own and preserve such a significant piece of sports history, which is now part of an exhibition dedicated to the 1970 Brazilian national team.
This story celebrates the preservation of sports memorabilia and its transition from a childhood toy to a valuable historical artifact, connecting generations through football history.
