The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) has amended the Code of Conduct for judges, allowing superior court judges to attend or preside over political or diplomatic functions. This permission is contingent upon obtaining prior approval from the relevant chief justices. Previously, a complete ban existed on judges participating in such events. The amendments, approved in a June 11 meeting, also include the Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) in the definition of superior courts. Judges are still required to maintain moral integrity and intellectual capacity, resisting external influences. Any attempts to influence judges must be promptly reported in writing to the Chief Justice of Pakistan and other senior judges.
This policy change reflects an adjustment in the ethical guidelines for judges, balancing their public and professional roles while reinforcing accountability.
