The blaze reportedly started around 9 PM, consuming nearly the entire structure, including the warehouse and its contents. Firefighters continued efforts on Friday morning to extinguish remaining hotspots within the building. The governor of Maputo province, Simão Tule, stated that it was too early to determine the cause of the fire, as salvage operations were ongoing. He noted that the supermarket is insured, which may facilitate future recovery efforts. The governor expressed regret over the loss, acknowledging the store's importance to the community. No injuries have been reported.
