The geothermal baths at Iceland's Lake Mývatn are scheduled to reopen on June 30th, following a significant renovation project. The popular tourist destination has been closed for several years while undergoing extensive upgrades. The latest phase of work, which began in early 2026, included the construction of a new service building and improved changing facilities, as well as an expansion of the bathing reservoir. During excavation, a large cave, approximately 12 meters deep and 105 meters long, was discovered. Authorities are currently evaluating the cave's potential for public access while considering its protection status. Despite previous delays, the reopening is anticipated to boost tourism in the Mývatn region.
