Info minister invites opposition for Charter of Economy, defends proposed FY27 budget
ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Sunday invited the opposition to sign a Charter of Economy (CoE) and defended the federal budget 2026-27. Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly on Sunday, Tarar gave credit to the government for what he called “sagacious” economic policy. “It’s a friendly and relief-oriented budget for all,” he said, noting that the budget has proposed to abolish the super tax, which had been approved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif
The Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar, called on the opposition to sign a Charter of Economy and supported the federal budget for the fiscal year 2026-27. He praised the government's economic policies, stating the budget is relief-focused and aims to benefit all citizens. Tarar mentioned that the budget includes the removal of the super tax, approved by the Prime Minister. He also highlighted increased revenue and foreign remittances. The opposition, however, expressed concerns over the budget's impact on various sectors. A leader from PTI suggested a Charter of Democracy to ensure an independent judiciary. The debate in the National Assembly saw political discussions rather than focused budgetary talks. Some opposition members criticized the budget's lack of support for farmers and other sectors. The government's budget proposals were seen as influenced by the IMF, with concerns over economic policies affecting different regions and industries.
The budget and its implications for various sectors and the economy are significant for Pakistan's financial stability and political dynamics.
