NDA inches towards two-thirds majority in Rajya Sabha; short in Lok Sabha despite TMC rebellion

The National Democratic Alliance is making progress toward securing a two-thirds majority in the Rajya Sabha, aided by the Trinamool Congress rebellion. Despite this, the NDA remains far from the required 263 seats in the Lok Sabha. The NDA currently has 148 MPs and is expected to gain three seats in the Rajya Sabha elections, raising its count to 154. With potential further resignations from TMC MPs, the NDA could reach 163 seats in the Upper House. However, the alliance's strength may decrease in November due to retirements in Uttar Pradesh. The opposition INDIA bloc has 64 MPs, while independent parties hold a significant number of seats. In the Lok Sabha, the NDA could reach 213 MPs if more TMC MPs align with it.

Achieving a two-thirds majority would allow the NDA to pass key constitutional amendment bills with greater ease.
