In the first four months of 2026, Divinópolis experienced over 11,000 missed medical appointments, resulting in a significant financial loss. The Municipal Health Secretariat (Semusa) reported that these no-shows have placed an additional burden on the public health system. The total financial impact amounts to R$ 2,260,735.58. Primary care saw 8,486 absences out of 106,917 offered appointments, while specialized care had 2,997 patients fail to attend 31,341 scheduled consultations. Dental appointments within primary care also contributed, with 4,272 missed out of 25,845. Other health professionals, including psychologists, physiotherapists, nurses, and nutritionists, also faced no-show rates between 8.3% and 9.2%.
The high rate of missed appointments represents a substantial waste of public resources and reduces access to healthcare for other patients in Divinópolis.
