Information Minister Attaullah Tarar called on the opposition to sign a Charter of Economy and defended the proposed FY27 budget. He highlighted the government's economic policies as sagacious and relief-oriented, noting the abolition of the super tax. Tarar also mentioned increased revenue and foreign remittances. The budget includes relief measures for various sectors but also introduces taxes on social media earnings and small traders. PTI leader Asad Qaiser criticized the budget and accused the minister of misrepresenting facts. He mentioned that the PTI is willing to sign a Charter of Democracy. The budget debate in the National Assembly saw political discussions rather than detailed analysis of the proposals. Qaiser claimed that the budget proposals were influenced by the IMF and criticized the lack of support for the agricultural sector.
The debate highlights the political dynamics and economic challenges facing Pakistan as the government presents its budgetary plans.
