TRC revitalizes five MGR locomotives, lowers maintenance costs

The Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) has restored five MGR locomotive heads at its Morogoro workshop, improving railway operations and reducing reliance on external maintenance. A parliamentary committee visited the site to evaluate ongoing rehabilitation efforts. The committee chairman praised TRC's growing technical capabilities and emphasized the importance of sustaining such facilities. The Morogoro workshop plays a vital role in maintaining and restoring locomotives to ensure reliable railway services. Local maintenance efforts have significantly cut costs compared to importing and servicing locomotives from Malaysia. The workshop employs 121 staff and is responsible for maintaining 68 locomotives, including both mainline and shunting units. It also handles scheduled maintenance and emergency repairs to support continuous railway operations. This development highlights the importance of investing in local technical expertise for a sustainable transport network.
