George Kusche set a new record in the men's 'up run' of the Comrades Marathon, finishing in 5:15:56. Gerda Steyn secured her fifth overall title, making her the second woman and seventh runner to achieve this feat. Kusche's victory marked the first time in 18 years that the men's record was broken. Steyn's win also saw her break her own 'up run' record for the third time. The race, held on 14 June, had the shortest 'up run' distance in recent history, contributing to faster times. Kusche's win was his first 'up run' after a 12th place finish in his first Comrades. Steyn's performance highlighted her dominance in the event, with her fourth consecutive win. The race route stretched 85.777km from Durban to Pietermaritzburg. Nobukhosi Tshuma and Irvette van Zyl finished second and third in the women's race.
