The Ministry of Health and Social Services completed a targeted polio vaccination campaign in Khomas and Omaheke regions. The campaign began after polio type 2 virus was found in sewage samples in Windhoek and Gobabis. The initiative aimed to protect children from polio. The same virus was previously detected in Rundu last year. A community mobilizer encouraged parents to get their children vaccinated before the campaign ends. He emphasized the importance of immunization in preventing paralysis. The campaign focused on children under 10, as adults are not considered at risk. Parents who missed the campaign can still visit health facilities. No cases of paralysis have been reported yet.
The campaign is critical to prevent the spread of polio and protect children from potential paralysis.
