FORTO Seeks TET Exemption for Legally Appointed Teachers
Forum leaders cite an NCTE clarification dated August 28, 2017, which state that NCTE has not prescribed minimum qualifications before September 3, 2001, and that State recruitment rules govern teacher appointments during that period
The Forum of Registered Teachers Organisations (FORTO) has called for an exemption from the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for teachers appointed legally under previous regulations. The request was made during a meeting in Vijayawada, led by FORTO's working president. The forum referenced an NCTE clarification from 2017, stating that minimum qualifications were not set before 2001. They argued that applying later TET norms to teachers appointed before the Right to Education Act would be unfair. Many teachers have maintained their skills through various training programs over the years. FORTO is urging governments to protect the rights of these educators. The proposal received support from affiliated organisation leaders.
The issue impacts the professional status and rights of long-serving teachers who were appointed under older regulations.
