Zanzibar draws Singapore investors' interest

The Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority noted that Singaporean investors' recent visit highlights increasing global confidence in Zanzibar as a rising investment destination in East Africa. This comes amid efforts by the government to enhance the business environment. During an investment meeting, the ZIPA Executive Director emphasized the growing appeal of Zanzibar to international investors due to diverse economic opportunities. The Singapore delegation toured areas like Mangapwani and Fumba to explore potential investments in land development, tourism, infrastructure, and maritime transport. The visit is seen as an opportunity to create jobs and boost the local economy. Zanzibar aims to learn from Singapore's successful development strategies, including strategic planning and innovation. Several Singapore-linked projects are already active in Zanzibar, such as the Fumba Town development. Trade relations between Zanzibar and Singapore are also expanding, with Singapore being a key market for Zanzibar's cloves. Local business leaders believe the visit offers valuable insights into Singapore's development model. Zanzibar's improved investment climate under President Hussein Mwinyi has attracted both domestic and foreign investors. A cooperation agreement was signed between Zanzibar, Mainland Tanzania, and Singapore to enhance economic collaboration.
