DAR ES SALAAM: IRINGA’S Ahmed Huwel ‘Mkwawa’ will lead a team of four Tanzanian wheelers in the conquest of the Mountain Gorilla Rally of Rwanda early next month. Huwel, who recently won the Tanzania’s National Rally Championship (NRC) opening round in Iringa, will be making a maiden entry to the Mountain Gorilla Rally in Rwanda. Ahmed Huwel will lead a Tanzanian team in the Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally. Huwel recently won the Tanzania National Rally Championship and is making his debut in the event. He will be joined by navigator Rahim Suleimna and veteran drivers Samir Shanto and Masam Fazal. Huwel aims to challenge Kenya's dominance in the FIA African Rally Championship. Karan Patel and Tauseef Khan lead the ARC standings with 83 points. Other top drivers include Drew Sturrock, Zahir Shah, and Ravinder Chana. Notable category leaders include Oscar Ntambi and Nikhil Sachania. The rally will take place from July 10 to 12, 2026, and is part of the ARC. It is organized by the Rwanda Automobile Club and features challenging gravel roads. The event follows the Pearl of Africa Rally in Uganda and precedes the Mkwawa Rally in Tanzania.
