Russian drones attacked Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, a UNESCO World Heritage site, during an assault on Kyiv on the night of June 15. The Uspensky Cathedral, part of the complex, suffered severe damage from two targeted strikes. One drone hit the central part of the cathedral, causing a large fire that spread across 800 square meters of the church. Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames and prevent total destruction. The second strike hit the Iohn Kushnyk Tower and the 'Mistetskyi Arsenal' museum complex, igniting a fire that covered about 1000 square meters. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the attack one of the largest Russian crimes against Christian culture, and Foreign Minister Andriy Yermak announced steps to seek international reaction to the 'act of state barbarism'.
