Tanzania completes EMT training program

The Ministry of Health in Tanzania, with support from the WHO and the Pandemic Fund, has completed a specialized training program for the National Emergency and Disaster Medical Response Team. The training focused on the EMT 10 Steps framework and the Emergency Medical Team Coordination Cell, both recognized globally for managing medical responses during emergencies. Dr. Erasto Sylvanus, Director of Emergency and Disaster Services, highlighted the importance of discipline, standards, and real-time coordination in the system's effectiveness. The initiative marks a shift from reactive to proactive emergency management. Trained professionals are expected to integrate national procedures with international guidelines to improve emergency services. A national database of emergency health professionals is being developed to support rapid deployment during crises. The program has also received support from the US CDC, CIHEB Tanzania, and Médecins Sans Frontières. Tanzania is now the 27th African country with a national EMT system, enhancing its capacity for rapid outbreak response.

This initiative strengthens Tanzania's ability to respond quickly and effectively to public health emergencies, improving national and regional preparedness.
