Forty years after the Chornobyl nuclear disaster, some of the individuals who participated in the cleanup efforts are reflecting on their experiences. Approximately 600,000 people, including soldiers, firefighters, engineers, miners, and medical personnel, were involved in the extensive operation to contain the fallout from the explosion.

These "liquidators" worked under hazardous conditions to mitigate the disaster's impact. Their service, often at great personal risk, was crucial in managing the aftermath of the world's worst nuclear accident.

The experiences of these liquidators offer a human perspective on the long-term consequences and the immense human cost of nuclear disasters.
