Rail Baltic underpass to link Tallinn's Ülemiste and Lasnamäe
A new tunnel will be built to connect Tallinn's Lasnamäe and Ülemiste City as part of the Rail Baltic project for €9.8 million and the first phase will be completed next autumn.
A new tunnel is being constructed as part of the Rail Baltic project to connect Tallinn's Ülemiste and Lasnamäe areas. The project, costing €9.8 million, is set to be completed by October 2027. Currently, the Ülemiste area is mainly accessible via Tartu maantee, with the nearest crossing point over three kilometers away. The tunnel will link Peterburi tee and Suur-Sõjamäe street, enhancing access for pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles. The Kantsi tunnel is a key component of a broader plan to make Ülemiste Estonia's main international transport hub. The project also includes a new passenger waiting platform. The Tallinn City Council approved the underpass construction last year.
The project aims to improve transportation infrastructure and enhance connectivity in Tallinn.
