Government allocates 1.45bn/- for local leaders
DODOMA: THE government has released 1.45bn/- for communication allowances for village, hamlet and street chairpersons across the country in the 2025/26 financial year, equivalent to 83 per cent of the funds allocated for the purpose. The government has allocated 1.45bn/- for communication allowances for village, hamlet, and street chairpersons in the 2025/26 financial year. This amount represents 83% of the total funds set aside for this purpose. Deputy Minister Festo Dugange revealed this during a session in the National Assembly. He highlighted the crucial role these leaders play in managing community development and challenges. In the previous financial year, 1.73bn/- was disbursed for similar allowances. This year, 1.74bn/- has been allocated, with 1.45bn/- already distributed. Local councils are responsible for providing at least 10,000/- monthly as communication allowances. Additional benefits depend on the financial capacity of each council. The government encourages councils to use internal revenues to support local leaders. It also plans to improve revenue collection to enhance incentives for grassroots leaders.
