Child rights advocates in Tanzania have urged parents, communities, and other stakeholders to support government efforts to eliminate child labour. The call was made during a dialogue in Dar es Salaam as part of World Day Against Child Labour. Despite government interventions, child labour remains a significant issue, especially in the informal sector. Children often work in agriculture, mining, and trade, affecting their education and well-being. A report highlighted that only 45% of employers have minimum-age employment policies, indicating gaps in workplace safeguards. Girls are particularly vulnerable, with 81% of children in domestic work being female. The coalition is working with the government to implement strategies against child labour. Family conflicts and unstable environments contribute to the problem, and advocates urge families to promote stability. The government remains committed to eradicating child labour through national action and enforcement of laws.
Addressing child labour is crucial for protecting children's rights and ensuring their well-being and future opportunities.
